Germany holds national drill for “long-lasting natural gas shortage”

German authorities want to test the country’s resilience to a severe natural gas shortage with a large-scale emergency drill held over two days, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs & Energy (BMWi) say in two separate press releases. “Germany’s natural gas supply is very secure and reliable,” says BNetzA head Jochen Homann. “However, it is prudent to be prepared also for unlikely emergencies,” he adds.
About 2,500 people take part in the drill dubbed LÜKEX 18, which is meant to examine emergency plans, communication channels, and organisational hierarchies for “a long-lasting gas shortage during an extremely cold winter,” the BMWi says.
