Car supplier Bosch expands green power supply in carbon neutral push

Engineering and technology firm Bosch is expanding its use of renewable electricity, with the goal of reaching climate neutrality at its 400 worldwide locations by the end of the year. According to industrie.de, Bosch’s German locations have already been climate-neutral since the end of 2019. The report notes that Bosch has signed three long-term contracts for photovoltaic energy with RWE, Stratkraft and Vattenfall to feed its German locations. Bosch is also seeking to boost its own power supply. It currently generates around 60,000 megawatt hours from about 50 photovoltaic systems, with the aim of reaching 400,000 megawatt hours by 2030. In 2019, Bosch emitted around 1.94 million tons of CO2 worldwide, about a third less than the year before, the report says.
Bosch said last year that it plans to become carbon neutral in 2020 by increasing energy efficiency, expanding the share of renewables in its energy supply, buying in more green power and offseting unavoidable CO2 emissions. The company said it expected the measures to cost 2 billion euros but to reap savings of around 1 billion euros in energy efficiency.
