Clean Energy Wire

With a turnover of 49.4 billion euros, climate protection made up more than half of Germany’s turnover within the sector of environmental protection in 2017, according to a press release from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). (Find a longer version in German here.) Environmental protection measures in total created a turnover of 73.9 billion euros, making them “a major economic factor” in Germany. Renewable energy brought in 24.4 billion euros, while efforts to improve energy efficiency and to save energy generated 23.6 billion euros.

From solar-panel cleaners to housing-insulation specialists and wind-turbine climbers, Germany's move to a low-carbon economy powered by renewable energy sources is shaping new businesses and the jobs market. A multi-institute study commissioned by the environment ministry from January 2019 said that achieving the 2030 and 2050 climate targets will benefit Germany’s economy.
