Two German brands in top ten of least damaging airlines

Clean Energy Wire

German airlines TUIfly and Condor are among the ten least climate-damaging aviation companies in the world, NGO atmosfair says in its Airline Index 2018. The companies ranked fourth and ninth, respectively, on the list, which was topped by Britain’s TUI Airways and Brazil’s LATAM based on their CO2 emissions per kilometre and passenger on all available routes. However, “our results show that the efficiency improvements of the vast majority of airlines worldwide are not sufficient, neither for the 1.5 degree nor for the 2 degree Celsius target of Paris," said atmosfair’s managing director, Dietrich Brockhagen, in a press release. "We need new, synthetic and CO2-neutral fuels and other more radical measures to curb CO2 emissions in the sector.”
