Germany's Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has announced that bids for ground-mounted solar PV from July have been successful, according to an agency press release. “The auction was almost twice oversubscribed,” BNetzA head Klaus Müller said. “The strong competition resulted in low awarded values and therefore low funding requirements.” The tender bidding date was released on July 1 with a volume totalling 2,148 megawatts (MW). The tender received 495 bids with a volume of 4,206 MW, of which 268 with a volume of 2,152 MW were awarded a contract. The largest volume of bids awarded went to the states of Bavaria (700 MW), Schleswig-Holstein (244 MW) and Brandenburg (231 MW).
Germany has met its target of installing 88 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity in 2024, with July breaking the record for amount of solar power generated. The rapid installation of new solar capacity in Germany has posed problems for local electricity grids, with utility companies warning that excess solar feed-in could cause grid disturbances. As of April, 3.4 million solar installations were connected to the grid across the country.
