Average temperature in Germany up to 1°C too warm in next 7 years - meteorological service

The mean temperature of the years 2022 to 2028 could be about 0.5 to 1.0 degrees too warm in Germany, the country’s Metrological Service (DWD) has warned. In its new decadal climate predictions, the DWD estimated that the years 2022-2028 will be hotter and also drier than the period of 1991-2020."Our analyses show that climate change will continue to have a significant impact on Germany in the coming years," Tobias Fuchs, the DWD’s climate director, said in a press release. The trend towards warming temperatures would be visible this year as well, with the average summer temperature (June to August) in Germany predicted to be one degree Celsius above the 17.6°C detected between 1991 and 2020. In the reference period 1961 to 1990, the average summer temperature was 16.3°C.

German crops and forests are already suffering the effects of decreased rainfall over the past few years. In some areas trees are dying at a higher rate than they were in the 1980s, when they were effected by acid rain.
