EU Court ruling allowing new diesel bans “next round in witch hunt on drivers” – commentary

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

The ruling by the European Court of Justice allowing cities to ban a new generation of “cleaner” diesel cars is “the next round in the witch hunt on drivers,” writes Holger Steltzner in a commentary for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He calls for “more calm in the partly hysteric diesel debate” because the air quality has improved in most European cities over recent years. Steltzner writes driving bans for new cars would be a “disaster for a large majority of the population,” even if they would make environmental activists cheer. “What should millions of commuters do? Quit their job or move into the city?”
