EU climate commissioner says climate targets no danger for industry

Handelsblatt

Germany's industry should not be worried about the European commission's proposal for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, according to EU climate and energy commissioner Miguel Arias Canete. “Our strategy aims to show how industry can pave the way to climate-neutrality using modern technologies without losing its competitiveness,” Canete writes in a guest column for business daily Handelsblatt. He assures energy-intensive businesses and their employees that he understands their concerns and that the EU “will not leave European industry alone,” but instead boost innovation and support sectors that are heavily exposed to international competition. The shift to a climate-neutral Europe will boost the economy, writes Canete.
