Business alliance calls on German government to speed up transition to e-cars

Clean Energy Wire

A group of five major companies has called on the German government to do more to promote electric vehicles (EVs). In a joint initiative under the umbrella of global business initiative The Climate Group, Ikea, E.ON, Vattenfall, Metro AG and LeasePlan say they are “committed to electrifying their global fleets and installing charging infrastructure by 2030.” The group is calling on Germany’s transport commission, which is currently negotiating plans to reduce emissions, to “take advantage of falling battery costs and set an ambitious trajectory to roll out EVs, in line with other European countries,” saying this would not only reduce air pollution and emissions, but allow Germany to “retain its leadership as a global car supplier.” E.ON e-mobility expert Andreas Pfeiffer said government and businesses should cooperate closely “to achieve a real energy transition”.
