Germany promotes e-mobility but many have doubts

The Verge

German car companies have announced major initiatives to promote electric vehicles, but not everyone is convinced, reports US tech site The Verge. Protests in some cities - modelled after the French "yellow vest" protests, but on a much smaller scale - have rallied against bans on older diesel cars, critics still argue a fast transition to e-mobility is impossible, and “more than half of western European car managers expect electric mobility to fail” according to a 2018 survey, The Verge reports.

Still, Germany’s largest car manufacturer, Volkswagen, has set itself ambitious e-vehicle targets. In the aftermath of the dieselgate scandal, VW has embraced a radical shift in strategy, and is set to become one of the world’s largest electric vehicle producers.
