Police prepares new evictions from anti-coal protest camp in Hambach forest - report
Tageszeitung
German police are preparing a new round of evictions from tree houses built in protest against lignite mining in Hambach forest, reports Anett Selle in the tageszeitung. The local administration said the order to clear the protest camp was based on fire protection laws, and that evictions will not start before next week.
Hambach forest has become a focal point for Germany’s protest movement against lignite mining. Anti-coal activists have held out in the forest for years. In October, a court ruling halted a massive police operation to clear the embattled ancient woodland to make room for a nearby lignite mine by energy company RWE.
