Opposition FDP warns against “fixation” on e-cars

dpa / Focus

Germany’s business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP) have warned against a one-sided bet on electric mobility in the country’s climate and transport policy. The head of the opposition party, Christian Lindner, told newswire dpa in an article carried by focus online that the technology damaged Germany’s automotive value chains and its environmental benefits were questionable, given Europe’s power mix with a heavy reliance on nuclear and coal. He said it would be “more environmentally friendly and economically efficient to run several propulsion systems in parallel,” and called for adding ethanol fuel (E15), biomethane, and possibly renewable synthetic fuels to electric mobility.
