Based in China, Yixuan (Catherine) Cai, staff writer for the Energy Observer Magazine ( (南方能源观察), covers the intersection of energy transition, electricity markets, climate change and carbon markets across China and worldwide.
In 2017, as China launched the national carbon market, she covered the progress and bottlenecks of the emerging market. Since 2018, she started looking at China’s overseas development financing in the energy sector.
Her work has won her accolades such as Berlin energy Transition Dialogue Media Fellowship, and Climate Change Media Fellowship, where she met her team members at the Global Climate Action Summit in the United States in 2018. They formed a “walker’s group” during breaks at the conference, and started hatching our cross-border plans.
In 2019, the four reporters from Pakistan, Nepal, India and China formed team PANIC and plan to discover how do China's PV exports impact South Asian countries? They were among CLEW's finalists for the 2019 'Go Collaborate – Energy Transition Story Grant' and used this grant to set up a cross-border reporting collaboration.
