New EU fleet emission limits are a “pointless harassment” – commentary

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

The new EU car fleet emission limits will likely push carmakers to the limit, argues Hendrik Kafsack in an editorial for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung entitled “Pointless Harassment” in the print edition. He writes that the limits are a wrong decision because climate targets for the car industry are inefficient given that it is much cheaper to lower emissions in other sectors. The transport sector should have been included in emissions trading instead, writes Kafsack. “Now there’s the danger that taxpayers will have to foot the bill and pay for electric car subsidies, charging stations and battery factories.”
