More than 300,000 car owners join lawsuit against VW over emissions cheating

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

More than 300,000 owners of VW diesel vehicles in Germany have joined a so called model lawsuit by consumer associations, suing in order to make the car maker pay compensation for the victims of emissions manipulations, reports Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The legal action has been made possible by new legislation which took effect on 1 November 2018 and was hurried through to beat a year-end statute of limitations for claims against VW. The Federation of German Consumer Organisations (vzbv), together with auto club ADAC, filed the lawsuit against Volkswagen that same day. More than 300,000 owners of cars with a specific diesel engine had entered their name in an online register by the end of 2018, according to a spokesperson of the Federal Office of Justice (BfJ).
