RWE AG is one of Germany's largest utilities and has approximately 20,000 employees. It still operates many coal-fired power plants and lignite mines in the country. But a comprehensive asset swap with former rival E.ON has turned RWE into one of the largest international players in renewables, and the company has committed to becoming climate-neutral by 2040, following Germany's coal exit.
